Barry (Baz) Cleary

Bushfire Consultant Pty Ltd is a local family business established in 2009.  The principal, Barry (Baz) Cleary was a licensed builder from 1975 until 1987 when he became a full time firefighter with the then NSWFB.  In 2002 he was promoted to Station Officer, the rank he held until his retirement from Fire and Rescue NSW in 2017 after 30 years of service.

During his 30 year career as a professional firefighter, he attended many structural fires, bushfires and motor vehicle accidents.  He attended the Newcastle Workers Club after the 1989 Earthquake, the 1994 Central Coast bushfires, the 2002 Sydney bushfires and numerous other smaller bushfire events.  He has been involved with bushfires at both  on the ground and tactical level as a strike team leader and in management roles.  He was also involved in the cleanup and restoration after the 2007 Newcastle “Pasha Bulka” storms.

In 2016 Baz was honored to recieve the Australian Fire Service Medal (AFSM) for his service to both the community and the Fire Brigades.

Formally he has completed and graduated from the University of Western Sydney with a Post Graduate Diploma in Design for Bushfire Prone Areas.   


Baz also holds qualifications in:

  •         General Land Rescue Operator FRNSW 1998
  •         Business administration TAFE 2001
  •         Certificate IV Workplace Training and Assessment  FRNSW 2002
  •         Certificate IV Public Safety - Firefighting Supervision. FRNSW 2002
  •         Post Grad Dip. Design for Bushfire Prone Areas. UWS 2009

 

 

Jan Cleary

Jan has enjoyed admin positions in retail and medical throughout her career. Jan holds a Cert IV in Practice Management from UNE and was Practice Manager for a local general practice for 10 years before changing direction into home based administation.  She now keeps Baz on the straight and narrow, drawing on her forty years experience!
